Meet Katie
I studied psychology and art as an undergraduate student in New York and completed my master’s degree in counseling psychology with an emphasis in somatic psychology at California Institute of Integral Studies in San Francisco. I believe that when people are able to give voice to their bodies and honor their instincts, their relationship with themselves can be restored and emotional healing can occur.
Background
I am a Northern California-raised, cis-gender, woman brought up in a home that valued creativity, community, and humor. I have spent much of my adult life in San Francisco and New York City, where I have worked for several community-oriented organizations. While in New York, I worked for Americorps as a preschool instructor, live-in nanny for a child on the autism spectrum, tutor for young people with ADHD, counselor for neurodivergent children, and intake specialist at a resource center for teens. When I returned to San Francisco, I became a certified postpartum doula and began working as a residential mental health counselor, a role I continue on a per diem basis. My range of experience working with people from all different backgrounds and stages of life has allowed me to recognize the necessity of holding the influences of ancestral trauma, systemic oppression, and current affairs closely in mind while moving through the many layers of hurt and healing encountered in the therapeutic process. In our work together, I will encourage you to consider how cultural context has shaped your belief system and empower you to live in alignment with your deepest values.
